What is Future Perfect Tense?

The Future Perfect talks about the past in the future.

The Future Perfect tense expresses an action in the future before another action in the future. This is the past in the future.

For example:

The train will leave the station at 9 am. You will arrive at the station at 9.15 am. When you arrive, the train will have left.

Let’s have a look at future perfect tense in Hindi: 

फ़्यूचर परफेक्ट काल भविष्य में किसी अन्य क्रिया से पहले भविष्य में होने वाली क्रिया को व्यक्त करता है। यह भविष्य में अतीत है।

fyoochar paraphekt kaal bhavishy mein kisee any kriya se pahale bhavishy mein hone vaalee kriya ko vyakt karata hai. yah bhavishy mein ateet hai.

The Concept of Future Perfect Tense:

The train will have left when you arrive.

Past Present Future

The train leaves in the future at 9 am.

9 am 9:15 am

You arrive in the future at 9:15 am.

Future Perfect Tense Hindi to English:

जब आप पहुंचेंगे तो ट्रेन रवाना हो चुकी होगी।

jab aap pahunchenge to tren ravaana ho chukee hogee.
The train will have left when you arrive.

Examples of the Use of Future Perfect Tense:

You can call me at work at 8 am. I will have arrived at the office by 8.

They will be tired when they arrive. They will not have slept for a long time.

“Sara won’t be at home when you arrive.” / “Really? Where will she have gone?”

Future Perfect Tense Structure:

Sentence subject + auxiliary verb WILL + auxiliary verb  HAVE + main verb
Positive Subject + will   have   V3
Negative Subject + Will not have   V3
Interrogative     Will Subject have   V3
Wh-Interrogative   Wh-word Will Subject have   V3
Structure of Future Perfect Tense

Examples of Future Perfect Tense:

subject auxiliary verb   auxiliary verb main verb    
+ I will   have finished by 10am.
+ You will   have forgotten me by then.
She will not have gone to school.
We will not have left.  
? Will you   have arrived?  
? Will they   have received it?
