The present indefinite tense is also called the present simple tense. The present indefinite tense shows repeated actions, states, and universal truths. Repeated Actions are habits and routines while states are the conditions someone is in at a particular time. Present Indefinite Tense Formula:
As there are two structures in the present indefinite tense so there are two different formulas for this tense. The present indefinite tense formula is subject + verb +s/es + object. The other formula is subject + verb +object.
Uses of present indefinite tense:
1. To talk about repeated actions
Repeated Actions can be either habits or routines.
Habits: I sleep early.
Routine: I take tea in the morning.
2. To talk about permanent actions or things staying the same for long
Permanent Action/ Thing staying the same for a long period: I live in Lahore.
3. To give information
Information: Sara announces a treat for the whole class.
4. To talk about facts and universal truths
Fact/Universal Truth: The Sun rises in the East.
5. To talk about thoughts
Thoughts: I think you need rest.
6. To talk about feelings
Feelings: I like cricket.
7. To talk about states
States: I own a beautiful house.
8. To take about Future events (Timetabled Actions)
Future Timetabled Action: The train leaves at 10 pm tomorrow.
9. Used in Conditionals (Conditional Zero & Conditional One)
Conditional Zero: If you heat the water, it boils.
Conditional One: If you work hard, you will succeed.
10. To talk about Demonstrations
